Chadderton Mill was built in 1895, by 2000, became empty, apart for one section close to Fields New Road that is used by a company for storage. The air raid shelters can be seen from the Metrolink tram that runs from Manchester to Rochdale, while passing you can see the earth works and concrete structures. Most mills had air raid shelters, it appears that these are the only ones still intact across the Greater Manchester area. Not far from the mill was the Avro factory in Greengate, which built the Lancaster bombers. Perhaps the mills in the area would have been prime targets, especially being close to Manchester.

I went exploring around Chadderton Mill today and discovered the air raid shelters behind the mill pond. Very creepy and haunting.
