Rakewood Lower Mill otherwise known as Schofield Hall mill, possibly originally dates from the late 18th cent, but with
extended structures added. Derelict for about 30 years, now designated as a dangerous structure..
This section could be the storeroom, being that it was a former woollen mill, there was evidence on the
beams of weft.
The images are the entrance to the flue that led to the chimney. The actual width was about 914.4 mm
or 3 feet wide in old money, the height about 1767.84 mm or 5.8 feet...coated in soot , as it would be, it was somewhat claustrophobic the further you went in.
Lower Rakewood Mill revisited in June 2023
A joint explore with Sacha Yasumoto, as this time I covered the north facing section of the mill the upper floors were predictably treacherous. I also managed to explore the chimney flue which at the other end had collapsed..
